The scientific activity performed
in this department concerns mainly polyolefines,
but other polymers are studied also.
|
Research work is carried
out, based on contracts with the Romanian Ministry
of Education and Research and with independent
companies.
Some inventions elaborated in this department
have been applied in the Production Plant. |
|
The following problems have been studied in this
department:
•
Technologies for obtaining new polymers and copolymers
based on ethylene (linear low density polyethylene,
ethylene-maleic diester copolymer, ethylene-vinyl acetate
copolymer, modified polyethylene with polar groups);
•
Obtaining
of new blends and composites with improved characteristics,
based on polyolefines and elastomers, with inorganic
fillers, polyolefinic composites with UV stabilizers
and composites with fireproofing agents;
•
Testing new additives for polyolefines;
•
Obtaining new ranges of polyolefines such as: antistatic
polyethylene, expandable polyethylene photo-biodegradable
polyethylene, photocrosslinked polyethylene, fire-resistant
polyethylene;
•
Obtaining films with target-properties for special uses:
agriculture (thermal film), constructions, hydro-insulation,
military;
•
Studies of thermo- and photo-oxidative stabilization
and aging phenomenon of polyolefines;
•
Studies about obtaining and using natural antioxidants
for polymers, such as vitamin E, flavonoids, Alga Spirulina.
|
|
The Polymers and Intermediaries Department also
performs specific analyses for interested customers
(especially polyolefines processing companies)
such as:
•
Density
•
Melt Flow Index
•
Tensile Properties
•
Dart Impact Resistance
•
Environmental Stress Crack Resistance for polyolefines,
according to ASTM, ISO and STAS regulations.
